Tadej Pogačar won the 2026 Tour de France, finishing the race in 73h 56m 26s and beating Remco Evenepoel by 6m 26s. Isaac del Toro completed the podium at 9m 42s.
It was Pogačar's fifth Tour victory after wins in 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025. That fifth title moved him level with Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain at the top of the all-time overall victory record.

The four main jersey winners
| Jersey / classification | Winner | Key final figure |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow: General classification | Tadej Pogačar | 73h 56m 26s |
| Green: Points | Mads Pedersen | 559 points |
| Polka dot: Mountains | Richard Carapaz | 156 points |
| White: Young rider | Isaac del Toro | 74h 06m 08s overall time |
Pogačar won five stages. Pedersen became the first Danish winner of the Tour points classification and, according to the organizer, the sixth rider to win the points competition in all three Grand Tours. Carapaz won two stages late in the race and the mountains classification. Del Toro combined the white jersey with third overall in his Tour debut.
How Pogačar built the victory
The Tour did not begin with Pogačar in permanent control. Visma | Lease a Bike won the opening Barcelona team time trial, and Torstein Træen also spent time in yellow. The decisive shift came in the Pyrenees. On Stage 6, Pogačar attacked on the Col du Tourmalet and rode the final 43 kilometres alone to Gavarnie-Gèdre. He won by 2m 38s over Jonas Vingegaard and reclaimed the race lead.
He kept adding stage victories at Le Lioran, Le Markstein and Alpe d’Huez. By Paris he had five wins in the edition and 26 career Tour stage victories. The organizer records that he wore yellow for 17 days.
Why the fifth title is historic
Five Tour victories is the traditional top tier of the race’s overall record book. Pogačar joined four riders who had reached that number before him. That makes a potential 2027 campaign historically important: a sixth victory, if he starts and wins, would move him beyond that shared mark.
The podium behind him
Evenepoel’s second place was reinforced by two stage wins, including the Plateau de Solaison victory that became Belgium’s 500th Tour stage success. Del Toro, racing his first Tour, finished third and won the white jersey. Their performances made the 2026 podium more than a one-man story.
The victory was built on five different stage wins
Pogačar's five victories were not concentrated in one part of the race. He won Stage 3 at Les Angles, Stage 6 at Gavarnie-Gèdre, Stage 10 at Le Lioran, Stage 14 at Le Markstein and Stage 19 on Alpe d'Huez. The Stage 6 win was especially important: A.S.O. describes him attacking over the Tourmalet and completing the final 43 kilometres alone before winning by 2m 38s over Jonas Vingegaard.
By Paris, Pogačar had reached 26 career Tour stage wins, moving past André Leducq's 25. The official post-race recap listed Bernard Hinault on 28, Eddy Merckx on 34 and Mark Cavendish on 35 above him.
A wider margin than 2024
The final 6m 26s advantage over Evenepoel was nine seconds larger than Pogačar's 6m 17s margin in 2024, according to A.S.O.'s post-race profile. He wore yellow for 17 days in 2026 and reclaimed the race lead after Stage 6.
That does not mean the Tour was without disruption. Jonas Vingegaard, who had spent two days in yellow, crashed out on Stage 15. Evenepoel then consolidated second place, while del Toro and Seixas fought over the final podium place and the white jersey.
Why the fifth title matters for 2027
Pogačar's wins now read 2020, 2021, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Five victories equals the historic record held by Anquetil, Merckx, Hinault and Indurain. The 2026 winner page therefore has a direct internal-link role for 2027: it supplies the evidence behind any discussion of a possible record-breaking sixth title.
The riders who completed the top five
Paul Seixas finished fourth at 11m 56s and Lenny Martinez fifth at 13m 02s. Seixas's result is particularly notable because he was 19; A.S.O. describes him as the youngest-ever rider to finish the Tour inside the top five.
The podium and top five therefore carried two parallel stories: Pogačar tying a historic record at the top, and a very young generation establishing itself immediately behind the leading favorites.
Final distance: use the classification figure carefully
The final classifications show 3,197 km covered, while the route page displays a longer 3,320.7 km total. Stages 9 and 21 were shortened during the race, so historical pages should not treat the two official numbers as an unexplained contradiction. The winner's final time belongs to the race that was actually run.
