CONFIRMED · BRITISH GRAND DÉPART
THREE STAGES.
ONE BIG OPENING.
The 114th Tour de France runs from 2 to 25 July 2027, beginning with a three-stage Grand Départ across Scotland, England and Wales. The first stage starts in Edinburgh and finishes in Carlisle, Stage 2 travels from Keswick to Liverpool, and the British finale runs from Welshpool to Cardiff.
The complete 2027 route is due to be presented in Paris on 22 October 2026 at 11:00. Until that announcement, TourDeFrance.online will treat the three British stages as confirmed and everything beyond Cardiff as pending rather than filling the gap with route rumors.

→ Carlisle

→ Liverpool

A Grand Départ that gets harder each day
The opening weekend has a clear progression. Stage 1 is rolling but contains only one categorized climb, the Côte de Melrose, and the flatter approach to Carlisle gives sprinters a realistic chance to contest the first yellow jersey.
Stage 2 is longer and more complicated. From Keswick, the race passes the lakes of Thirlmere, Grasmere, Rydal Water and Windermere, skirts Morecambe Bay and heads into the Lancashire fells. Five categorized climbs stand between the start and a finish on The Strand in Liverpool. A strong breakaway has terrain to work with, but the flatter final section keeps resilient sprinters in the conversation.
Stage 3 is the first confirmed day that looks capable of reshaping the overall classification. Welshpool to Cardiff contains eight categorized climbs, six of them in the final 80 kilometres. Published details include the Côte d'Epynt at 3.7 km and 7.9%, the Côte de Penrhys at 10.1%, the short Côte de Hengoed at 11%, and the Côte de Caerffili at 2 km and 8.1% only around 12 km from the finish. More than 3,000 metres of climbing has been reported for the day.

The Tour arrives before Stage 1
The Grand Départ is not only a Friday race start. Race headquarters and the press centre open in Edinburgh on 29 June, followed by the official team presentation on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade on Wednesday, 30 June.
Grand Départ organizers say the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will stage and produce the presentation, giving the ceremony a specifically Scottish identity before the peloton leaves the capital two days later. Fans planning a trip should therefore decide whether they want to experience both the team presentation and the race start.
Watching the British stages in person
The official British organizers state that the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes stages are free to attend from the roadside. The publicity caravan will precede the race and forms part of the spectator experience.
Free access does not mean unrestricted car access. Full road closures, parking restrictions and local traffic measures are required along the course and around start/finish areas. Detailed timings will be published closer to the event. For most spectators, the best plan will be to use public transport, walk or cycle where host guidance recommends it and arrive well before the peloton.
How to watch on TV and streaming
The U.S. rights picture is already confirmed. Peacock is the exclusive U.S. home of the Tour through 2029, with every stage available live from start to finish under the NBC Sports/A.S.O. agreement. Selected stages can also be simulcast on NBC.
In the UK, TNT Sports provides comprehensive live Tour coverage. Channel 5 is the English-language free-to-air highlights partner for the Tour from 2026 through 2028 and will also show the 2027 British Grand Départ stages live. Exact daily program times will be added when broadcasters publish them.

A RECORD-TYING VICTORY
Tadej Pogačar won the 2026 Tour in 73h 56m 26s, finishing 6m 26s ahead of Remco Evenepoel. Isaac del Toro was third, Paul Seixas fourth and Lenny Martinez fifth.
Pogačar won five stages and ended the Tour with 26 career stage victories. More importantly for the history books, his fifth overall Tour win tied the record held by Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain. If he starts in 2027, the possibility of a sixth title will be one of the race's biggest storylines, but his participation should not be described as confirmed until an official source says so.
The other 2026 classifications add useful context. Mads Pedersen won the green jersey with 559 points, Richard Carapaz took the mountains competition with 156 points, del Toro won white, and Lidl–Trek finished first in the team classification.
OUR EDITORIAL PROMISE
CONFIRMED MEANS CONFIRMED.
TourDeFrance.online is independent and is not the official Tour de France website. Confirmed information will be labeled as confirmed. Predictions will be labeled as analysis. Results will be checked against final race classifications. If a route, squad or schedule changes, the existing article will be updated instead of leaving outdated duplicates in search.
The aim is simple: give a reader the answer quickly, then provide enough verified context to make the page worth returning to.
